Max Rosenn: An Uncommon Conscience is a one-hour biographical documentary film that chronicles and celebrates the distinguished legal career and public service of United States Court of Appeals Judge Max Rosenn. The production is the second in the Great Pennsylvanians series, produced by WVIA to recognize individuals whose lives are defined by singular achievement and significant contribution to the quality of life in northeastern Pennsylvania and beyond.

During 35 years on the federal bench, Rosenn has written legal opinions that have addressed American society’s most complex and demanding judicial issues, such as murder, the military draft, labor relations and abortion.

As Pennsylvania’s Secretary of Public Welfare and Chairman of both the Hurricane Agnes Flood Recovery Task Force and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, Judge Rosenn assumed responsibilities for resolving equally compelling social conditions affecting hundreds of thousands of people living throughout his beloved Commonwealth as well as within the Wyoming Valley.

The film celebrates Judge Rosenn’s agile mind and benevolent spirit to tell both young and old a noble story of seeking the greater good. It also presents an uncommon opportunity for viewers to experience the complex and challenging world of the Federal Court, and better appreciate the relentless process of forming a more perfect union, toward which our region and our country are that much closer because of Max Rosenn.
