Hazleton to be featured in nationwide PBS broadcast

PITTSTON, Pa. – WVIA and the Hazleton One Community Center present a free preview screening of a new documentary, American Creed, Wednesday, December 27 at 7:00 PM at the Community Center, 224 E. 4th St., Hazleton.

The documentary by Citizen Film is a cross-partisan inquiry into the idea of a unifying American dream.  The film relates stories of individuals and communities striving to realize their dreams. It will air on WVIA TV and PBS stations nationwide February 27.

One featured story centers on Hazleton native and Chicago Cubs Manager Joe Maddon, who helped found the Hazleton Integration Project to unite the people of many different cultures who now call Hazleton home. From family roots in coal mining and plumbing, Maddon pursued opportunities in baseball with great success, as a three-time Manager of the Year with a World Series championship.

“WVIA is proud to co-host this preview screening with special guest Joe Maddon,” said WVIA President and CEO Tom Curra. “This Hazleton event is the first of several regional outreach activities to celebrate American Creed, an important documentary about opportunity, civic participation and community progress.”
