WVIA celebrates National Poetry Month with the 2016 Poetry Out Loud Regional Competition

PITTSTON, Pa. – WVIA celebrates National Poetry Month in April. Each weekday at 1 p.m. WVIA-FM will feature regional high school students reciting poems from the 2016 Poetry Out Loud Regional Competition. The complete competition can be seen on WVIA-TV on Thursday, April 7 at 8 p.m.

 

In February top regional high school students participated in the 2016 Poetry Out Loud Regional Competition at the WVIA Public Media Studios in Pittston, PA. A total of 7 students participated with the winner advancing to the state competition in Harrisburg, PA.  

 

The students featured are Zoey DeRozdi from Wallenpaupack Area High School, Andrew Decker from MMI Preparatory School, Alex Nebraski from North Pocono High School, Ganon Palmitor from Holy Cross High School, Katie Howie from Riverside High School, Sarah Hankey from Abington Hights High School and Mary Huffman from Scranton High School.

 

The 2016 Poetry Out Loud Regional Competition is sponsored the Northeastern Educational Intermediate Unit (NEIU #19) and WVIA Public Media and is supported by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, Lackawanna County, the National Endowment for the Arts and The Poetry Foundation.
