WVIA PR – Empowering Educator Winners to present work at WVIA Public Media Studios

PITTSTON, Pa. – On Wednesday, May 11 at 11 a.m. WVIA will host a presentation from the six grant recipients of this year’s Empowering Educators Contest. The recipients will present the outcome of each of their projects as well as describe their experiences. The event is free to the public and all are welcome to attend.

 

On Monday, Dec. 21, 2015 WVIA Public Media and PPL Corporation presented six winning Empowering Educators teams each with $1,000 to be used as funds in the completion of a STEM-related public service project.

 

Empowering Educators, sponsored by PPL Corporation, encourages students in grades 6-8 to make a positive difference in their communities by performing a public service tied to the fields of science, technology, engineering and/or mathematics (STEM).

 

The six winning Empowering Educators teams are:

 

Cedar Crest Middle School (Lebanon, PA): “Cultivating Compassion”

Lakeland Elementary School (Jermyn, PA): “Montdale Food Pantry”

Millville Area Junior – Senior High School (Millville, PA): “Millville Community Park”

Susquehanna Community Junior- Senior High School (Susquehanna, PA):  “Between the Extremes”

Weatherly Area Middle School (Weatherly, PA): “Weatherly Area Community Library”

Wyoming Area Secondary Center (Exeter, PA): “Green for Vets”

 

Each of the teams was led by a designated teacher within its district.
