Poetry Out Loud

Tuesday, April 7 - 7pm on WVIA-TV

April is National Poetry Month and WVIA is celebrating all month long. Each weekday in April at 1 p.m. WVIA-FM will feature regional high school students reading poems from the 2014 Poetry Out Loud Regional Competition which will be broadcast on television on Monday, April 7 at 7 p.m. on WVIA-TV.

In February top regional high school students participated in the 2014 Poetry Out Loud Regional Competition at the WVIA Public Media Studios in Pittston, PA. A total of 10 students participated with the winner advancing to the state competition in Harrisburg, PA.  

The students featured are Serena DeSeta from Abington Heights, Nathalie Dragwa from Carbondale, Chyanne Kemp from Wallenpaupack, Ellie Helcoski from Riverside, Lindsey Cocker from North Pocono, Mayling Ijomah from Tunkhannock, Adam Lynn from Mountain View, and Marisa Vanness from Montrose.

The 2014 Poetry Out Loud Regional Competition is sponsored the Northeastern Educational Intermediate Unit (NEIU #19) and WVIA and is supported by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, Lackawanna County, National Endowment for the Arts, and The Poetry Foundation.

Encore presentations of the 2014 Poetry Out Loud Regional competition can be seen Thursday, April 10 at 8 p.m., Sunday, April 13 at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 20 at 7 p.m., Monday, April 28 at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 1 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, May 4 at 3 p.m. on WVIA-TV.
