Radio - Local Programs
A soundscape that suits Sunday mornings to a tee.
Sundays 7am on WVIA-FM
Rise Sunday mornings to join Erika for this special blend of sacred and secular music from the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and early Baroque periods.
We may present the finest of the exquisite Mass settings by Palestrina, Byrd, DuFay or Tallis one week, and the very next program may feature some delightful dances for viol consort. Monteverdi madrigals help us imagine love in its cruelest and most sublime manifestations, while Shakespearean serenades pop up to surprise us with wit and wisdom.
Meet the Team
Morning host of Classical Music, Art Scene, Early Birds, and other WVIA programs, Erika Funke is a Senior Producer and Classical Music Host at WVIA-FM.
“ArtScene”, her award-winning daily arts program, features interviews with creative individuals from the region, the United States and abroad. She has produced many programs about the history of northeastern Pennsylvania and its residents. Her radio play “Who Pretender Is, Or Who Is King” centers on the lives of the residents of Laurel Run, a borough outside Wilkes-Barre, plagued by a chronic mine fire. The piece was recently produced by The Northeast Theatre and broadcast on WVIA-FM.
