Funded by the Berwick Health and Wellness grant of $5,606 from the Central Susquehanna Community Foundation, WVIA Public Media recently brought its PBS Kids in the Classroom program into Elementary school’s classrooms in Appleman Elementary School in Benton, West Berwick Elementary School in Berwick, Nescopeck Elementary School in Nescopeck and Salem Elementary School in Berwick.

Designed as a “Field Trip in the Classroom” for Elementary Students, the children watched an episode of Clifford the Big Red Dog which focused on health and hygiene. The students then made Let’s Go Luna placemat which taught them about the 5 food groups.

This hands-on activity was followed by story time with Debby the Clubhouse mom from WVIA. As a surprise at the end of the program Clifford the Big Red Dog from PBS Kids visited the classrooms and each student received the book “Clifford’s Manners”.

A total of 13 classrooms were visited by the PBS Kids in the Classroom presentation that was sponsored by the Central Susquehanna Community Foundation.
