The GoShamokin! Revitalization Plan received $160,000 in federal funding.
With the funding from U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, the organization will develop a comprehensive safety action plan.
The plan will identify steps needed to upgrade the city of Shamokin. It will focus on improving connectivity, ADA accessibility, integrating new technologies, addressing safety and enhancing bike and pedestrian elements, according to the senator’s office. From 2016-2020, there were 162 vehicular crashes in Shamokin, resulting in 94 injuries, including two deaths.
The funding was provided by the U.S. Department of Transportation’ Safe Streets and Roads for All program.
