Stephanie Machmer, a teacher in the Jersey Shore Area School District, is one of 12 educators up for the honor.
The Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year Program annually recognizes excellence in teaching by honoring K-12 teachers in public education who have made outstanding academic contributions to their students.
The finalists are selected from applicants and recognized in Harrisburg each fall, according to the state. The winner is announced in December.
