The City of Williamsport announced on Jan. 25 that its police department received $1.58 million from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD).
Williamsport’s Bureau of Police requested money for IT and equipment improvements as well as officer training. With the funding, the department is also looking to create a new position, a Community Relations and Recruitment Specialist, according to a statement from the city.
Nearly 200 police departments received an average of about $600,000 from the state agency.
PCCD distributed a total of $120 million through the Local Law Enforcement Support Program to be used throughout 2023 and 2024.
