Your Gift Powers Local, Independent Journalism — And It’s DOUBLED During NewsMatch.

Make a tax-deductible contribution by December 31 and it will be matched dollar-for-dollar by national and local partners.

What is NewsMatch?

NewsMatch is a national fundraising movement that boosts the power of local, nonprofit journalism by matching individual donations made between November 1 and December 31. For WVIA News, it’s a game-changer: every gift goes further, fueling deeper reporting, stronger community coverage, and the independent storytelling our region depends on. This campaign doesn’t just support journalism — it multiplies the impact of every supporter who believes in WVIA’s mission.

Our goal is $125,000 and 200 new members! GOALS ACHIEVED! Our New Goal is Below:

Our Impact is Simple but Powerful:

Stronger conversations, better decisions, and a more connected, informed region. From accountability reporting to stories that elevate local voices, WVIA News shines a light on issues that directly shape daily life in our region — education, health, the environment, the economy, and more.

Bringing home the hardware: The WVIA News Team was recognized on national and state stages this year with journalism awards from Public Media Journalists Association, Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters and Keystone Professional Media Awards, organized by the Pennsylvania Newsmedia Association. The journalism highlighted produced engaging storytelling through the voices of the community, focusing on culture, diversity, public safety, veterans, business, healthcare and comprehensive beat coverage for education in Northeast and Northcentral Pennsylvania.

More specifically,

  • WVIA News won a first-place Public Media Journalists Association (PMJA) award for its Recipes of the Region series, which launched last year. The series was conceived by WVIA News Managing Editor Faith Golay. The stories and photos were produced by members of the news team. "Don’t be fooled by the name, Recipes of the Region," Golay said. "The series not only leaves readers with ideas for their next meals, but it highlights people from diverse cultures, backgrounds and ages in the Northeast and Northcentral Pennsylvania."
  • The Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters (PAB) awards recognized the quality and importance of coverage from a compelling story about the dangerous consequences of distracted driving statewide and legislation to prevent it by Roger DuPuis, and a Veteran’s Day special about a 99-year-old WWII veteran who leads his local orchestra for a popular performance in Scranton by Sarah Hofius Hall.
  • WVIA News team won four Keystone Professional Media Awards in multiple categories. The annual awards contest is organized by the Pennsylvania Newsmedia Association to recognize "journalism that consistently provides relevance, integrity, and initiative in serving readers and audiences, and faithfully fulfills its First Amendment rights/responsibilities." WVIA News received a first-place award for Sarah Hofius Hall's education beat reporting, second-place awards for business and news feature stories by Roger DuPuis, and a second-place award for the news team's reporting on issues related to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

Why Should I Trust WVIA News?

WVIA News is built on a simple promise: to serve our community with facts, depth, and integrity. Our journalists live here, understand the issues that shape our region, and report with transparency. We follow the story wherever it leads, guided by public-service values rather than profit or politics. When you support WVIA News, you’re investing in reliable local reporting that empowers informed decisions, strengthens our democracy, and keeps Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania connected to the truth.
