A hearing on a solitary confinement referendum in the Lackawanna County Prison has been rescheduled for later this month.
According to the activist group, NEPA Stands Up, the hearing is expected to take place on Jan. 27 at 10:30 a.m. in courtroom three at the Lackawanna County Courthouse.
The group collected more than 13,000 signatures in 2022 with hopes to put a prison reform question onto ballots in November.
Lackawanna County Commissioners blocked that move, citing the county’s Home Rule Charter. The County said prison regulations could not be changed by ballot referendum.
The three judge panel will hear oral arguments about whether the group is entitled to a jury trial.
