Zack's Night to Remember

It was a night to remember for Zachary Martz. The 12-year-old, who has terminal cancer, attended Wyoming Valley West's prom on May 12 with his cousin who asked him to go with her after learning of his diagnosis.

Zack was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, a rare type of bone and soft tissue cancer, in 2019. He underwent chemotherapy and radiation, but the cancer was still there. Zack is now on a second clinical trial drug. Every 21 days, he travels to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia with his mother, Brittney Edwards, where they stay for three days of treatment.

A Facebook post for a limo to the prom lead to an outpouring of support from the community. People stepped in to offer their time and supplies to make the event one to remember. Tuxedo Junction donated a tux, Ketler Florist offered a boutonniere and flower bouquet, Ciera Pastor of Ace of Spades Barbershop gave Zack a new haircut, and Valley With a Heart picked up the tab for the limousine. The couple was escorted to the prom by a dozen motorcycles riders who are friends of the family.
