On Wednesday, PennDOT brought attention to its Operation Yellow Jacket campaign with Pennsylvania State Police.
The transportation authority warned motorists about speeding in designated work zones at an event in Lackawanna County.
Part of the joint campaign involves troopers monitoring traffic from PennDOT maintenance vehicles.
Over the last five weeks in Lackawanna, Wayne, Pike, and Susquehanna Counties, state police say they’ve made 136 traffic stops in work zones.
"The operations have been run within active PennDOT staffed construction zones on interstates 81, 380, and 84 along with other local state highways. The initiative focuses on speeding, tailgating, and distracted driving behaviors of motorists,” said Patrol Section Commander Lt. Michael Joyce of PSP Troop R Dunmore in a statement.
There were nearly 1,300 crashes in work zones in 2022, which resulted in 14 deaths and 51 serious injuries, according to PennDOT.
