Financial pressures are forcing colleges and universities to consider selling highly valued art works to a solicitous buyer behind the building of a new museum in Arkansas.
Fisk University in Nashville is currently negotiating with Alice Walton, the Wal-Mart heiress, over her offer to pay Fisk $30 million to share the Stieglitz collection of art works donated to the school by Georgia O'Keeffe. And Randolph College in Lynchburg, Va., is seeking to break the trust of a donor to sell its collection of American art to Walton.
