Thanks to a PennDOT grant, the Luzerne County Transportation Authority has added five new eco-friendly buses to its fleet.
The 35-foot buses manufactured by California-based Gillig are powered by compressed natural gas (CNG), which allegedly produces nearly zero carbon emissions.
By 2024, the LCTA plans to retire all of its diesel-powered buses, replacing them with all CNG-powered engines.
The transportation authority said it’s currently on track to meet that goal.
