Governor Tom Wolf toured a canning facility in Lackawanna County Thursday.
CANPACK on East Lackawanna Avenue in Olyphant is the largest manufacturing project in the Greater Scranton Area since Proctor & Gamble in Mehoopany in 1966. More than 500 local jobs were created at the facility.
Bringing the steel food can manufacturing site to Northeast PA was a Governor’s Action Team – or GAT – deal. Since 2015, 194,000 jobs have been created and retained in Pennsylvania through GAT, according to Wolf’s office.
Built on a formerly blighted 102-acre brownfield site, the 908,000 square-foot aluminum can manufacturing facility was funded with a $6 million Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant. The company matched the grant with a $366 million investment.
