Last week, Carbon County agreed to buy privately-held land near Mauch Chunk Lake Park.
County commissioners approved the purchase of about 45 acres along the northern part of Lentz Trail for $238,000 on March 9.
The county will protect the land instead of allowing development on the parcel, according to Commissioner Chris Lukasevich in a post on Facebook.
Residents had raised questions about proposed building projects and septic systems within a close distance to Mauch Chunk Lake.
In the March 9 meeting, commissioners made it clear that the county did not purchase all of the land owned by Edward and Regina Kanick, so concerns about wastewater could still be relevant.
The family will still own about 10 acres of a separate parcel in the area, the commissioners said.
