Wilkes University announced it has received grants totaling $400,000 for a project in downtown Wilkes-Barre.
The university is spending $200,000 in addition to the grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the Multimodal Transportation fund for enhancements surrounding 116 South Main St.
The plan includes new lighting, landscaping and a walkway to the front of the building and neighboring Grant Alley.
Formerly known as South Main Towers, the building was rehabbed by Wilkes-Barre-based D&D Realty to add apartments on the second, third and fourth floors.
Wilkes is still exploring options for first-floor use, according to a statement.
