Hawaii Post Loses 10 Soldiers in Copter Crash

The crash of a Black Hawk helicopter Wednesday in Northern Iraq killed 14 U.S. soldiers. Four were assigned to the 6th U.S. Air Calvary Regiment at Fort Lewis, Wash., and the other 10 served in the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. The soldiers ranged in age from 20 to 30 years old and came from 11 different states. Col. Tim Ryan, the unit's commander, says the entire community is grieving.

About 7,000 soldiers from Schofield Barracks are currently deployed in Iraq. Most left Hawaii in August for what was meant to be the unit's second yearlong tour. But in April, their combat deployment was extended to 15 months.
