But first, let's kick things off with headlines. Today, we start in Philadelphia. Members of the Legislative Black Caucus met with the National Rifle Association to talk about gun violence that's hurting the city. An NRA lobbyist said the organization would work with lawmakers, but the NRA opposes a bill that would require people to report lost or stolen weapons. So far, this year, Philadelphia has lost a person per day to gun violence.
And if you thought Microsoft founder Bill Gates was raking it in, look up Carlos Slim Helu. The Mexican telecommunications leader has reportedly become the world's richest man. A Mexican journalist says Helu, who heads the phone company Telmex, is worth nearly $68 billion. In its most recent report, Forbes magazine says he is not worth quite that much. They still ranked him second to Gates. Helu says he doesn't pay much attention to the rankings since he's not in a race to the top. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
