  • Turkey's top military officer has called for attacks on bases belonging to Turkish Kurdish rebels who operate in northern Iraq, in the latest escalation of tensions between Iraq and its northern neighbor. Chief of Staff Gen. Yasar Buyukanit held a rare news conference in Ankara today, saying a military incursion into Iraq is essential.
  • The National Weather service says the Tornado that struck Greensburg, Kan., had top winds of at least 205 miles per hour. If the exact same tornado had struck the same place last year, they would have rated wind speeds much higher. What changed?
  • President Bush unveiled a long-term strategy on climate change. He called on the world's top 15 greenhouse-gas emitting countries to come up with a goal for reducing the greenhouse gases that spur global warming. The president's statement comes ahead of a summit next week in Germany where global warming will be a major topic.
  • First-born boys traditionally inherit thrones, family wealth, and, testing has found: a higher IQ. The practice has been given a boost by a new study in The Journal of Science. Norwegian researchers found that second sons whose older brothers died young and left them at the top of the heap scored higher on IQ tests.

  • Adele is the first female artist to have an album spend 10 consecutive years on Billboard's top 200. She's only the tenth artist to hit the milestone, joining the likes of Metallica and Bob Marley.
  • Two U.S. Senators will introduce a bill to make recording films inside a movie theater a felony, punishable by up to 10 years. The move has strong backing from Hollywood, which has made combating piracy a top priority for the entertainment industry. But critics say the measure is extreme because camcorder videos are not responsible for mass piracy. NPR's Elaine Korry reports.
