A Sikh American, Valarie began organizing against hate crimes after a family friend was murdered in Arizona in the first hate crime committed after 9/11. Kaur’s activism is rooted in dispelling stereotypes and telling stories that humanize us as Americans. She talks about her partnership with America Ferrera to bring positive Sikh visibility into mainstream media.
