Congress Grills Air Force over Airbus Deal

Congress summoned top Air Force officials Tuesday to defend the decision to purchase the French-built Airbus air tankers.

The decision by the Air Force has most of Congress fuming, with some members demanding that the Air Force rescind its offer to EADS-Northrop. The Boeing Co. lost out to the bid by Northrop Grumman and its European partner.

Boeing's advocates in Congress summoned the top Air Force weapons buyer to answer questions.

Meanwhile, Defense Secretary Robert Gates is trying to explain to Congress that he can't do much about the decision.
