STEVE INSKEEP, host:

NPR's business news starts with video game sales racing ahead.

(Soundbite of music)

INSKEEP: If you're in the video game business, you might be saying, what recession? Americans bought $1.7 billion of game hardware and software and accessories last month. That's a jump of more than 50 percent, 50 percent over March of last year, according to the market research firm NPD. Consumers bought 720,000 Nintendo Wii consoles, putting the device ahead of Microsoft's Xbox and Sony PlayStation. The top selling software was a Nintendo Wii game called "Super Smash Brothers Brawl." Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
