A free event celebrating Black History Month will take place at Muhammad Ali’s former training camp near Deer Lake this weekend.
Fighter’s Heaven will welcome guests on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 11 a.m. with a ceremony running from noon until 3:45 p.m. and lunch provided to attendees.
Pottsville native and National Boxing Hall of Fame inductee Aaron Snowell organized the gathering.
Snowell will speak about training Mike Tyson and Tim Witherspoon.
Lynne Carter, the first African American female boxing judge, will also speak about her career, according to a release.
Muhammad Ali founded the camp in 1972 and used it to train for high-profile matches like the “The Rumble in the Jungle” against George Foreman, according to the camp’s new owner.
Saturday’s Black History Month event will be held at 58 Sculps Hill Road, Orwigsburg, PA 17961.
