Scranton group to celebrate Black History Month with exhibit, flag raising this weekend

The Black Scranton Project is hosting its 5th Annual Black History Month Celebration this weekend.

Community members are invited to RSVP to an event from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4 at the group’s Center for Arts & Culture located at 1902 N. Main Ave in Scranton.

The Black Scranton Project (BSP) will showcase a local history exhibition as well as “reflect, honor and celebrate Black Americans' pivotal roles in shaping national identity and culture,” according to its website.

A link to RSVP can be found at BlackScranton.org.

The city of Scranton will also be raising the Pan-African flag at City Hall on Saturday at 12 p.m. alongside BSP.

It will be the fourth time Scranton raises the black, red and green flag, according to the City of Scranton Government Facebook page.
