Our business news starts with a bid to build nuclear reactors in Texas.
It's the first request to build a new nuclear power plant in the U.S. in three decades, since the Three Mile Island accident of 1979. Effectively, that killed off the nuclear industry. Today, a company called NRG Energy will request permission to build two new nuclear reactors and the bid would make it take the lead on what could be a revival of nuclear power. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has geared up for a flood of applications for new reactors over the next year. If they get the thirty-some applications they expect, it could mean an investment of $60 billion. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
