Publicly Funded Hebrew Charter School Opens in Fla.

The nation's first publicly funded Hebrew charter school has just opened in Broward County, Fla. Ben Gamla Charter School has 400 students who take Hebrew language classes and study Jewish history and culture as well as traditional academic subjects.

However, opponents, including some Jewish residents of the area, say this precedent raises the prospect of publicly funded Islamic or fundamentalist Christian schools in Florida.
