A federal judge in California granted the world's six largest automakers a victory by tossing out a lawsuit by the state attorney general holding them responsible for global warming emissions. The suit claimed that the automakers account for more than 20 percent of human-generated carbon dioxide emissions in the U.S. And it sought millions of dollars for what it expects to spend repairing damage from the emissions. But the judge ruled lawmakers, not judges, should determine if automakers are responsible for global warming.
