Confirmation Hopes Dimming for Top CIA Lawyer

In June, the Senate Intelligence committee had a confirmation hearing for John Rizzo. He's up for the top legal job at the CIA. Rizzo is perhaps the CIA's most experienced lawyer, and he was deeply involved in establishing the agency's interrogation and detention policies – perhaps too involved, for the senators' taste.

Democrat Ron Wyden has put a "hold" on Rizzo's nomination, and a committee source says neither Republican senators nor the administration are pushing for a vote. So, Rizzo's confirmation hopes are fast dimming.

The CIA, meanwhile, is going on four years without a permanent general counsel.
