Pennsylvania is passing a $50 billion spending package to end a four-month budget stalemate that has held up billions for public schools and social services.

Voters have given Democrats Christine Donohue, Kevin Dougherty and David Wecht 10 more years on the bench in a contentious race that saw partisan tensions running high and substantial campaign spending.

Authorities say three police officers were fatally shot and two wounded in southern Pennsylvania, and the shooter was killed by police.
