A Staten Island man was charged with shooting a 20-year-old woman in Pittston Township Wednesday.
Christopher Nelson Carmona, 37, was arraigned after 1:30 a.m. Thursday. The victim from Pittston was taken to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital Wednesday and is in stable condition, according to state police.
Police swarmed the busy shopping center along Route 315 Wednesday around 4 p.m. after reports of a shooting in the parking lot. Police said that the victim saw Carmona in the parking lot, rummaging through her car. When confronted, he shot her.
Officers from multiple departments, including state police and Pittston Twp., searched the area Wednesday evening, prompting Dupont Borough Council to issue a shelter-in-place order. Traffic along Route 315 was significantly backed up as emergency crews from around the area arrived.
Around 8:30 p.m., Carmona was seen walking along Route 315 in Dupont and was taken into custody, according to state police.
Carmona is charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault and possession of a firearm, and other related charges, according to court documents.
He was denied bail and is in Luzerne County Prison.
Carmona’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 15 at 1 p.m.
