Law enforcement search for missing Old Forge man

Law enforcement officials are investigating the suspicious disappearance of Robert Baron Sr. in Old Forge, according to the office of Lackawanna County District Attorney Mark Powell.

Baron, whose family owned Ghigiarelli’s Pizza, disappeared six years ago on Jan. 26, 2017. Baron's body has not been located. However, because it was clear that a violent altercation occurred in the restaurant, detectives believe he was likely the victim of a homicide, a press release from Powell's office said.

Around noon on Tuesday, March 28, Old Forge Police cars blocked off areas around Pagnotti Softball Fields in the borough. Near the fields, police vehicles including the Lackawanna County Mobile Command Center, were parked.

In the release, Powell's office says thanks to recent advancements in forensic technology, previously unexplored investigative avenues are now being pursued. The DA's office is also actively working with the Old Forge Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police and the FBI.

Powell's office says they know there are people who have not spoken with the police that have information regarding Baron's death or disappearance.

They are asking those with information to contact their designated hotline at 570-963-6311 or designated email at lackawannada@lackawannacounty.org. Information can be shared anonymously.
