Remember a 'lost' NFL victory in Pottsville

This is a bronze replica of the shoe that Charlie Berry wore to kick the field goal that propelled the 1925 Pottsville Maroons to a 9-7 victory over the University of Notre Dame on Dec. 12, 1925 at Shibe Park in Philadelphia. The Maroons won the 1925 National Football League championship before the league president controversially stripped them of the title. Notre Dame won the 1925 collegiate football championship. The Maroons-Fighting Irish game included the Four Horsemen, four famed former Notre Dame players who rejoined their college team for the exhibition game. The Maroons decision to play the game cost them the NFL title. One of the Four Horsemen, Jim Crowley, later settled in Scranton and died there.
