Hanover Area School District

We're off to defend a castle with the Dungeons and Dragons club at a Luzerne County school - the club is one way educators there are trying to increase school attendance.

In most schools, including Hanover Area, attendance rates are lower compared to the years before the COVID-19 pandemic. The Luzerne County district wants to reduce absenteeism, and has increased the number of activities — including Dungeons and Dragons.

Nathan Barrett plans to leave the Hanover Area School District at the end of 2025, and Charles Suppon, Jr., will become superintendent of Wyoming Valley West in July.

A university closed. Teachers learned a new language. A school district expanded to meet growing enrollment. In Northeast and Central Pennsylvania, education included both addition and subtraction in 2024.

School directors this week unanimously approved purchasing the Mondelez International office building in Hanover Industrial Estates.
