Susquehanna,the river’s name, comes from the Susquehannock people, an Iroquoian-speaking tribe whose name is often translated as “people of the muddy river. Long before European contact, Indigenous communities lived and moved along the river, using its rich waters for fish, transport, trade routes and settlement.
