Berks County

The proposal calls for Lehigh, Berks, Dauphin, and Lackawanna counties to establish the Southeast Youth Detention Agency to operate a youth detention facility in Berks.

After years of sending juvenile detainees to centers in other counties, Lackawanna County will send them to a Berks County center, which will reopen, perhaps as early as July 2027.

PennEnvironment representatives visited Hawk Mountain Sanctuary to discuss the need for a cohesive statewide plan for wildlife corridors to protect natural habitats and prevent wildlife from being killed on the road.
