Tens of thousands of fans lined West Fourth Street in Williamsport, with people standing four or five rows deep in some areas. Some people placed chairs along the route the day before, and others watched from second-story windows and rooftops.

They cheered for the 20 teams that will compete over the next 10 days. Players autographed baseball. Children collected candy and trinkets. Marching bands played energetic music.
