Farmers Market

Farmers markets across the region are open for the season. And, an update on the state budget, which is now more than a week late.

Farmers markets bring fresh produce and meat, homemade baked goods and locally-grown flowers directly to consumers. Several opened for the season across the region, including in Downtown Pittston.

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture notified local governments and agencies last week that the federal government is holding back money appropriated for the vouchers, which means fewer recipients will get vouchers and their distribution has been delayed.

The Scranton Co-Op Farmer’s Market opened to a crowd of excited customers and farmers on Monday who were eager to sell their goods. Each year, from mid-July until Thanksgiving, the farmer’s market provides the community with fresh food and goods.
