At its apex, the Hawley Silk Mill produced silk threads for other mills. It employed around 500 women, many were immigrants new to the area. An America250 Semiquincentennial Bell is now outside the mill to honor its past and the many untold stories from inside.

The row of discrete solar panels at Lukans Farm Resort generates enough energy to power 15 homes. The resort in Wayne County is one of nine that received funding through the United States Department of Agriculture grants for energy efficient projects. Lukans is expected to save almost $24,000 dollars a year.
